English KS3

Our homework this year has three parts to it:

  1.         Reading. We ask that pupils read for 10 minutes, 5 times a week and record the date, title of the book and pages read in their Home Link Book or own notebook.

All pupils have access to free read books. In the KS3 section of the library, books are spotted depending on their content. Year 7 pupils are allowed books with one spot and Year 8 are allowed books with two red spots. All pupils, but especially those who struggle with reading, will benefit from sharing their free read book with someone at home, rather than reading it alone. Home reading supports the significant work we do on reading in school, which includes daily sharing of class novels.

 2.        CGP

Year 7: Key Stage Three Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar 10 minute tests.

One workout a week from this book is set to support the development of grammar and spelling knowledge and skills. The CGP workouts re-visit grammar and spelling knowledge and skills taught in previous years as well as new bits for KS3. You are very welcome to support your child in completing this homework. It should take 10 minutes. We are happy for your child to stop after 10 minutes even if the workout is not complete. Please email if you feel your child is struggling with the CGP book. If you want further explanation of the grammar terminology, BBC bitesize is a good place to look:

This will support our grammar and spelling teaching in school.

Year 8: Key Stage Three Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar Workbook

A minimum of two pages a week from this book is set to support the development of grammar and spelling knowledge and skills. The CGP workbook re-visits grammar and spelling knowledge and skills taught in previous years as well as new bits for KS3. You are very welcome to support your child in completing this homework. Please email if you feel your child is struggling with the CGP book. If you want further explanation of the grammar terminology, BBC bitesize is a good place to look:

  1.         Spellzone. Provides a personalised spelling programme for each student. We ask that students spend a minimum of 20 minutes a week on Spellzone. All pupils have a login for this website - it is in their home link book. If getting online at home is challenging, students are encouraged to attend KS3 Quiet Space or speak to their English teacher.
